Shoe as Canvas

The Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder Shoe design highlights the Symmetry and Order OCD to promote awareness and understanding of this mental health issue. As someone who struggles with this disorder, it has impacted my life and design work. I selected this plain white shoe because it is best associated with the mental issue of OCD since it is more likely to be seen in mental hospitals. Patients will likely wear closed-toe, non-slip, comfortable, safe footwear for basic needs.

For the design, I decided to glue keycaps onto the surface of plain white shoes. I was inspired by my experience as a graphic designer who spends hours at the computer and constantly wants to rearrange my keyboard. Given the opportunity to showcase OCD, I arranged the keycaps on one shoe in numerical and alphabetical order while creating a messy and unstructured arrangement on the other shoe.
